Personal Writing Task: “This, I Believe”

Here’s a really good task that you can use with your class at the start of the year or the start of a semester with a new class to get to know them, without following the same old “write me a letter about who you are” format.  Read the full brief by clicking “read more”, and feel free to share your thoughts on this. When I used this task with my class, I asked students to talk about 2-4 different topics/beliefs, to allow them to cover enough of a variety of topics, yet still provide enough room for them to explain these beliefs in detail.

Argumentative Writing

In my Year 10 English class, we’ve recently completed a unit of work on Argumentative Writing. In this task, students were required to complete three mini tasks, which included writing a letter to the editor, a response to an article from the 1960’s featuring predictions for what life will be like in year 2000, and response to a choice of several topics.
