Now studying: Master of Education (Educational Computing)

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

In a  previous blog entry, I discussed the possiblity of studying for my Master of Education (Educational Computing) at UniSA after I recently completed my Bachelor of Education (Primary & Middle) there.

The offers for 2009 entry to this course were released last night, and I have been accepted - and I can’t wait to start!

I took a closer look at the subjects available and the 8 that I’ve chosen to study to complete my Masters are as follows:

Study Period 2 (First Semester):
Information and Communication Technologies and Instructional Strategies
Design for e-Learning
Educational Leadership and Computer Technologies
Multimedia in Education

Study Period 5 (Second Semester):
e-Learning
Internet and Education
Web Publishing and Education
Information Technology and Curriculum

I’m looking forward to continuing my studies in March this year, and continuing to share my experiences and topics of interest from my study via this blog.

A lot can change in 24 hours.

Only 24 hours ago, I walked out of Uni for (almost) the last time… or so I thought. Sure, I knew that I was about go out on my PAR4 practium and teach for 5 weeks, but to me that doesn’t count as Uni. And I knew that I had the conference day coming up on Oct 3, and a few assignments to complete… but I was almost done. And it was almost over, or so I thought.

On the drive home, I was talking to a good friend and colleague who is in the same position as me - we’ve both just finished our degrees with UniSA at Mawson Lakes - and we were talking about our career goals and aspirations in the field of teaching. One of my goals is to be a part of the leadership team within a school, and he pointed out that there is an increasing trend for people who are in leadership positions within schools to have further qualifications on top of their basic undergraduate education qualifications.

This morning, I was taking a look at the UniSA School of Education web site, and discovered their Master of Education (Educational Computing) qualification. It only takes 12 months full time or 2 years part time to complete the qualification, and all of the courses within the options that I can choose from are all topics of interest to me. I took action immediately and have lodged my application with SATAC to study this course.

Throughout my University studies, I have been disappointed at the lack of an ICT specialisation being available, and undertook the “Librarianship” sub major instead, due to the cross-over role for Teacher Librarians to be also involved quite heavily in the ICT programs in Primary Schools.

A lot can change in 24 hours… I’ve just had yet another reminder of that.
